PRESS RELEASE
The City of Wyandotte and Business Association are pleased to
invite southeast Michigan citizens to the 42nd Annual
Wyandotte Street Art Fair and Sidewalk Sale.
The Art
Fair will be held on Biddle Avenue, First, Maple & Elm
Street in downtown Wyandotte, Wednesday though Saturday,
July 9-12, 2003,
Art Fair hours are 10 AM to 9 PM daily.
Riverfront Entertainment / Food Court hours are 10 AM to
11 PM daily.
Annually the art fair brings 250,000 visitors to Wyandotte.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:
The Art Fair Committee is comprised of nine members:
Three from the City of Wyandotte, one representative from the
Business Association of Wyandotte, one representative from the
Downriver Arts and Crafts Guild, one representative from the
Acanthus Art Society and three representatives from the
community.
STATISTICS:
The Wyandotte Street Art Fair, a non-profit event,
is now in its 42nd year.
There are approximately 350 artists and craftspeople
participating. Thirty-five food and beverage concessions
provide a wide variety of delicious cuisine to satisfy all
visitors. Area merchants convert sidewalks into a giant
outdoor market featuring once-a-year
values of quality merchandise.
Proceeds from all beer sales are
donated to the Wyandotte Goodfellow Program and all Lemonade
sales proceeds will benefit the Wyandotte Kiwanis Club #1000,
Wyandotte Kiwanis Sunrise Club, Wyandotte Lions Club,
Wyandotte Figure Skating Club, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel High
School, Wyandotte Catholic Consolidated School, Roosevelt High
School Music Boosters and Wyandotte Wildcats Swim Club, Wyandotte
Jaycees.
SPECIAL FEATURES FOR THIS YEAR INCLUDE:
Children’s Activity Area will be
located on Elm at 1st Street and will include Xtreme Fun
Entertainment for people of all ages.
This area will
feature:
FOR ALL AGES – The Xtreme Rock Wall, a 25’ challenge with
different skill levels. Xtreme Spin
Machine- four people climb aboard and buckle up for a spin you
won’t forget. FOR AGES 2 to 14 - The Jurassic
Adventure-enter through the ancient dinosaur boneyard, then
use ropes to guide your feet up the rocky terrain of the
raging volcano at the mountain’speak. Escape the area
by the fastest route to the bottom on the 10-foot dueling
inflatable slides. Xtreme 26’ Slide. FOR YOUNG
CHILDREN – Star Walk Jump House. Ride Prices range from $2 -
$5
NON PROFIT GROUPS
– over 30 non-profit
groups will be on 1st Street, from Oak to Elm Street.
A group of dedicated non-profit organizations will
display their information.
AMERICAN RED CROSS - will host a blood
drive on Friday, July 12, at Wyandotte
City Hall, from 11 AM - 5 PM. Help save a life and
donate at the Wyandotte Street Art Fair American Red Cross
Blood Drive.
FIRST AID STATION - provided by staff
from Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital will be at Biddle and Maple
Street.
CHILDREN'S EMPORIUM - A special area for
children will be located on First Street at Maple. This
area will feature the Children's Emporium where
children, 12 years of age and under, will be able to purchase
items (cost to be from $1 to $5) which have been donated by
participating artists. The Emporium will only be open on
Saturday, from noon to 4 PM. Proceeds are used for the
Wyandotte Street Art Fair Scholarship Program.
DOWNRIVER ARTISANS GROUP -The Downriver
Artisan Group, located at the First
United Methodist Church (corner of Oak and Biddle Avenue),
will feature many
special artists, from 10 AM to 4 PM.
The church will also sponsor an Annual Used Book
Sale; the monetary contribution from the book sale are
used to support and sustain the religious lending library.
Quilting Demonstrations are scheduled from 11 AM
to 2 PM daily. Lunch and Pie Social from 11 AM to 2 PM
daily.
The Celebration Stage will feature: Wednesday
7 PM – First United Methodist Church Band, 8 PM Final
Answer; Thursday PM Providence; Friday 6 PM the Sammons
Brothers, 7 PM Wyandotte Christian Church Band, 8 PM Wyandotte
Christian Church Women’s Band and Youth Band; Saturday 6 PM
Riverpoint Christian Church, 7 PM Damascus and 8 PM First
United Methodist Church Praise Band.
ENTERTAINMENT
-Two musical entertainment
stages will provide music for
spectators of all ages - schedule attached.
SHOW AWARDS -
FREE RIDE SHUTTLE – is scheduled to
transport visitors from Roosevelt High School to Eureka at
Biddle Avenue every 15 minutes.
RIVERFRONT FOOD COURT
- This new food
court area is located on Elm Street at
Van Alstyne in the riverfront parking area. Food
selection includes the Hawaiian Food, Kola’s Polish Kitchen, Ray's Prime Foods, Thai Thai, Urick Concessions,
Beer Concessions, Lemonade stand / "Blinkie
& Glow Necklaces" .
This area will also feature two entertainment stages, and
a large tents with tables and chairs.
MAPLE STREET CLASSIC CAR INVITATIONAL –
1939-1974 Stock and Modified carswill be featured on Maple
from 1st to 2nd Street.
Competition schedule – Wednesday, July 9th,
for 1939-1950, Thursday, July 10, for 1950-1959; Friday July
11, from 1960-1974. Grand Finals July 12. The top
4 winners from each day will compete for the Mayor’s Trophy
with the best of show announcement on
Saturday at 8 PM. This event is hosted by the Sport’s
Brew Pub in Wyandotte.
The Wyandotte Art Fair Committee is pleased to partner with the
following radio stations are scheduled to broadcasting live
from our main media tent located at the Biddle & Elm intersection.
